African Arowana

The bonytongue species known as the Nile Arowana (Heterotis niloticus) is native to Africa. When compared to the South American, Asian, and Australian arowanas in the Osteoglossidae family (Arapaimidae is occasionally included in Osteoglossidae), the African arowana is more closely linked to arapaimas, the only other members of the Arapaimidae family. A species that is elongated, laterally compressed, and has a somewhat level back profile. The final part of the body is covered by the anal and dorsal fins. Between these fins and the caudal fin, there is a fissure. The head is coated in bony plates, and the scales are enormous. Light olive to silver gray is the predominant coloring, frequently with silver iridescence. The eye is huge while the head is little.

Tank Requirements of African Arowana Fish For Sale

Aquarium:

Only smaller people under 16″ (41 cm) in length will fit in a tank measuring 48″ (122 cm) with a capacity of 50-70 gallons (190-266 L). Larger specimen require a tank with a minimum height of 60 inches (152 cm) and a volume greater than 90 gallons (342 L). The tank should have a good covering. Diffuse the illumination by covering it with a layer of floating plants. Keep the swimming areas open and use big plants for the backdrop. Dark colors should be used to arrange the tank.

Social behavior:

This species should be kept alone as it is aggressive toward other members of its own species. Other than that, this species is not very hostile to fish that it cannot consume. This predatory species may eat small fish.

Xenomystus, Synodontis, Hemichromis, Cichlasoma, Astronotus, Anostomus, Leporinus, Pacus, Silver Dollars, Pimelodids, Loricarids, and Knifefish are larger Mormyrid species.

FOOD:

a naturally occurring plankton and filter feeder that commonly takes in live worms, fish, insects, and shrimp in captivity. Pellets may be accepted by acclimated specimens.
